Skin resurfacing removes damaged skin, allowing fresh, new skin to restore your appearance. For many years, skin resurfacing was achieved using chemical peels and dermabrasion. While those procedures are effective and still used, advanced lasers have been developed that provide important advantages over other methods. Lasers can be precisely adjusted to remove skin in one very thin layer at a time, only going as deep as necessary to treat your skin concerns. YES – The IPL platform of the ICON laser is the best laser treatment for Rosacea. Rosacea is an inflammatory skin condition that causes redness and visible blood vessels on the face. It can affect anyone, but often develops in middle-aged women with fair skin. It doesn’t have a cure, so treatment focuses on minimizing flare-ups. Lasers improve the appearance of rosacea by eliminating the redness and visible blood vessels. Red blood cells and red pigments absorb the laser, which destroys the targeted tissues. Patients report seeing a 40-60% improvement in rosacea symptoms after two laser sessions.

Treatment may take anywhere from 30 minutes to two hours, depending on the procedure performed and the area being treated. Recovery time also varies according to the type of treatment and whether skin was removed. Your skin may be slightly red and swollen, and you may need little to no recovery time, or you may need weeks to recover; it varies for each treatment. Deep skin resurfacing often requires one to two weeks of downtime to allow for healing. Microneedling is a minimally invasive treatment that uses a device with hair-thin needles to create microtears on the surface of your skin. These microscopic wounds spark your body’s natural healing response to create the skin-tightening proteins collagen, hyaluronic acid, and elastin. While microneedling is an effective skin revitalization treatment on its own, the Potenza device combines it with RF energy to intensify the process. RF energy heats the deeper layers of your skin to tighten them while further increasing your collagen and elastin production.

Most Potenza treatments take about 45 minutes. About 45 minutes before your treatment, Dr. C will apply a numbing anesthetic to your skin for maximum comfort during your visit. Once your skin feels numb, she runs the device over your skin. Most people experience a light pressure or slight stinging sensation, that creates discomfort, but the treatment shouldn’t be painful. We use a Zimmer Cooling device as well as have NitroNox available as needed.

It typically takes at least two weeks to see visible results with Potenza. For optimal results, Dr. C recommends scheduling 3-5 sessions, spaced about six weeks apart. You should start to see tighter, brighter skin within two to six months. Because microneedling with RF energy is minimally invasive, you can return to Dr. C annually for maintenance treatments.
